New Delhi, Aug. 20 -- A total of 1,647.696 km of the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal has been fenced, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai stated that out of the total 2,216.7 km border length in West Bengal, fencing has been completed along 1,647.696 km.

He noted that 569.004 km still remains to be fenced and equipped with other border infrastructure. Of this, 112.780 km has been deemed non-feasible, while 456.224 km is feasible for fencing.

Out of the feasible stretch, land for 77.935 km has been handed over to the executing agency. For the remaining 378.289 km, the state government has yet to initiate land acquisition for 148.971 km, while land for 229.318 km is...
