New Delhi, Aug. 14 -- President Droupadi Murmu today described partition as a folly of history and said the pain inflicted on the country by the partition should not be forgotten.

''As we look back on the past, we must not forget the pain inflicted by the Partition of the country,'' she said in her address to the nation on the eve of 79th Independence Day.

Pointing out that today the country observed the 'Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas' she said terrible violence was witnessed and millions were forced to relocate due to Partition.

''Today, we pay tributes to the victims of the follies of history,'' she added.
