Florence, July 21 -- Iconic musical 'The Sound of Music' completed 60 years of its release earlier this year, the surviving cast members have been able to remain close friends all these years.

Directed by Robert Wise, the Oscar winning film 'The Sound of Music' premiered on March 2, 1965. The film' s story was inspired by the real-life von Trapp family who fled Austria to escape the Nazi regime.

The film starred Julie Andrews and the late Christopher Plummer in lead roles.

Former child stars of the film have remained friends for 60 years, and they recently reunited in Florence, Italy.

Kym Karath, who played Gretl, the youngest von Trapp sibling, shared photos of the group catching up on her social media account.
