New Delhi, March 18 -- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday told the Rajya Sabha that India's economy today is "far more transparent and robust" compared to the past, asserting that the government has moved away from off-budget practices and is presenting a true picture of the country's fiscal health.
Replying during the discussion on the Appropriation Bill here, Sitharaman said, "The reality is that the economy today is far more transparent and robust than the so-called 'rosy' period of the past, which was supported by off-budget accounting practices."She said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has avoided such methods and ensured that "the growth numbers we present today are credible."The ...
