Dhaka, July 25 -- UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has donated 3,550 tents to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to assist families who have been affected by torrential monsoon rains and floods earlier this month.

The first batch of family tents was handed over to BDRCS at a ceremony atUNHCR's warehouse in Cox's Bazar on Thursday.

The tents are fire resistant and worth approximately $2million, UNHCR said.

Hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshis have been displaced across Bangladesh, particularly in the northern, north eastern, and coastal districts, following non-stop heavy rains and rising river levels earlier in the month.
