Rekha Gupta, Feb. 20 -- time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Shalimar Bagh, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi today in a grand ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders.
Gupta's appointment marks the party's return to power in the national capital after 27 years.
The 50-year-old leader secured a decisive victory in the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Bandana Kumari by over 29,000 votes.
With her appointment, Gupta becomes the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following in the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi. Notably, she is also the only incumbent woman Chief Minister in any BJP-ruled state.
