Dhaka, June 23 -- The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Reform Unity Council on Monday threatened to enforce a complete shutdown of all tax, customs and VAT offices across the country starting Saturday if NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan is not removed from his post.

Council President Hasan Muhammad Tarek Rikabdar and General Secretary Sehela Siddika issued the threat at a press conference held at the NBR headquarters in Agargaon.

They alleged that the chairman is acting as a "political agent of the former Awami League government" and is attempting to destabilise the country's revenue system.

As part of their ongoing protest, officers and staff of various NBR offices in Dhaka observed a sit-in at the NBR headquarters on Monday.
