Dhaka, May 27 -- A money exchange trader was shot and robbed of about Tk 22 lakh, including foreign currencies, in broad daylight in Dhaka's Mirpur area on Monday morning.

According to police and witnesses, Md Mahmudul Islam, 55, owner of Mahmud Money Exchange, was travelling to his office at Mirpur Section-10 from his residence in Mirpur Section-6 by a battery-run rickshaw.

The mugging occurred around 9:55am on Abdul Baten Road, between the stadium swimming pool and the fire service office.

Police said six muggers on two motorcycles intercepted Mahmudul, shot him on the left side of his back, and made off with a bag containing the cash.
