Dhaka, Dec. 10 -- The authorities have issued an order to remit the remaining jail terms of five inmates convicted of minor offences, paving the way for their release from different prisons across the country on the occasion of Victory Day.

Bangladesh celebrates the surrender of the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971 as Victory Day on December 16.

The order will be implemented immediately upon receipt, prison authorities said.

Md Jannatul Farhad, Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (Media and Development), confirmed the matter.
