Dhaka, Dec. 10 -- The High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh on Wednesday recognised Kalpona Akter and Rani Yan Yan as the inaugural laureates of the Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh Human Rights Defenders award for their meaningful contributions to the promotion and protection of human rights in Bangladesh.
The event, to commemorate International Human Rights Day, provided an opportunity to recognise the contributions of the laureates, strengthen relationships and reaffirm Canada's support for human rights in Bangladesh.
The two recipients were recognised for their sustained leadership as human rights defenders.
