, Sept. 20 -- Celebrated Bollywood and Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, 52, died in a scuba diving accident in Singapore on Friday.

Garg was in Singapore for the North East India Festival, scheduled on September 20-21, where he was to perform. While scuba diving, he experienced breathing difficulties. He was rescued, given CPR, and rushed to Singapore General Hospital but was pronounced dead around 2:30 pm IST.

Festival organizers said Garg had gone scuba diving with some members of the local Assamese community without their prior knowledge. His manager informed the team about the accident, and they immediately coordinated with authorities. The festival has now been cancelled.
