Dhaka, June 19 -- August 5 will now be a public holiday to honour Student-People's Uprising Day, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki announced on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, Farooki said the decision to declare August 5 as a National Day commemorating the student-public movement will be finalised at the Advisory Council meeting on Sunday.

"Programmes centring the July uprising will begin on July 1 and continue till August 5. A detailed month-long plan will be announced next Monday. The main phase of the July programme will commence on July 14," Farooki said.
