India, Jan. 23 -- Trinity Rodman has risen to become one of women's football's standout talents, recently clinching the title of the world's highest-paid female footballer thanks to a landmark contract with the Washington Spirit.

Her three-year contract with the Spirit, worth upwards of more than $2 million a year when bonuses are included, set a new benchmark, beating Barcelona's Aitana Bonmati.

"I have no doubt this is where I wanted to begin the next chapter of my career," the young player said in a statement supplied by his club organisation. "I'm proud of what we've built since my rookie season and excited about the direction the club is headed."
