Nigeria, Nov. 18 -- The Senate has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently recruit at least 100,000 additional military personnel following the abduction of 25 schoolgirls and the killing of a vice principal in Kebbi State.

Senator Abdullahi Yahaya, who raised the motion, described the attack as a national disgrace and warned that persistent assaults on schools threaten girls' education.

Lawmakers also set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the funding and effectiveness of the Safe School Initiative.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio condemned the recurring pattern of school kidnappings as the world watches Nigeria's security situation closely.
