Nigeria, Jan. 24 -- Kenya's Ministry of Health on Thursday announced plans to launch a nationwide vaccination campaign against mpox after confirming 36 cases, including one death.

The programme will focus on high-risk groups such as truck drivers, healthcare workers, and people with weakened immune systems.

Vaccination will be complemented by measures like improved disease monitoring, quick diagnosis, and quality treatment.

Kenya reported its first mpox case in July 2024 near the Tanzania border, highlighting the disease's presence in the region.

The government is working with international organizations to secure vaccines, while community health workers will lead awareness efforts.
