Dhaka, Feb. 27 -- All fifty candidates fielded by the ruling Awami League and Jatiya Party have been declared elected unopposed in the 50 seats reserved for women in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
This development comes as a result of the withdrawal deadline for nomination papers passing without any contestants stepping forward, according to returning officer Md Moniruzzaman Talukdar.
The announcement was confirmed by Shariful Alam, the director of public relations at the Election Commission secretariat, earlier this evening. As per Alam, the polling date for this election was scheduled for March 14. However, given the absence of any contestants, an actual vote was unnecessary.
