Srinagar, June 1 -- INDIA'S GDP for the financial year 2020-21 has contracted 7.3 percent, according to the provisional estimates of GDP released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Monday. This despite the fact that the GDP had marginally risen in the January-March quarter (Q4) grew by 1.6 percent, and the October-December quarter had reported a growth of 0.4 percent. The reason for the deep contraction has been the abysmal performance of the economy in the April-June and the July-September quarters when the GDP plunged by 24.4 percent and 7.3 percent respectively.
