Dhaka, July 11 -- The water level in the Gomti River in Cumilla has started receding as rainfall started easing, authorities said on Friday.
According to the Cumilla Water Development Board (WDB), the river's water level began to drop from midnight and was recorded at 8.94 meters at 9am on Friday, down from 9.20 meters on Thursday evening, reports UNB.
Executive Engineer of the WDB, Khan Md Waliuzzaman said the water level is gradually falling with the reduction in rainfall. "If there is no heavy rain at the river's source in Tripura, India, the water level is expected to decrease further," he added.
Locals said water has started to recede from the flood-affected char areas of the river and city (Cumilla) areas.
