Dhaka, May 13 -- In response to sustained student protests, the Ministry of Education has relieved Professor Dr Shuchita Sharmin from her position as Vice-Chancellor of Barishal University, along with Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Golam Rabbani and Treasurer Professor Dr Md Mamunur Rashid.

This decision was formalised on Tuesday, 13 May 2025, through an official notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary ASM Kasem of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, as per local media reports.

The administrative changes follow weeks of escalating demonstrations by students, who accused Dr Sharmin of authoritarian leadership, negligence in student welfare, and failure to address a 22-point list of demands.
