ClassNK starts pilot testing of 3D model-based approval system with ten Japanese shipbuilders
Japan, Feb. 16 -- ClassNK has launched a joint pilot programme with ten Japanese shipbuilders to test a 3D model-based drawing approval workflow, as the classification society prepares to shift from conventional 2D approvals to a 3D-centred system scheduled for release in spring 2026, according to ClassNK. The pilot covers ClassNK's NK-PASS drawing approval management system and the ClassNK 3DViewer, both developed to support 3D model-based approval (3DMBA), in which 3D models replace 2D drawings as the core approval medium.
