Mumbai, April 22 -- Nine years after the ghastly murder of a lady police officer, a trial court at Panvel in the adjoining Raigad district has handed out to senior police inspector and recipient of President's gallantry award Abhay Kurundkar to life imprisonment and sentenced two others to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for their involvement in the sensational crime.
Holding Kurundkar and his two aides Mahesh Phalnikar and Kundan Bhandari guilty of involvement in the crime, Sessions Judge of Panvel court K G Paldewar convicted them for the gruesome murder of Assistant Police Inspector Ashwini Bidre-Gore on the basis of strong circumstantial and technical evidence.
