Manila, July 29 -- Coupled with resilience and unity, Filipinos could also withstand calamities through the help of science, technology and innovation (STI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said on Tuesday.

"The DOST believes that through STI, Filipinos could become victors and not victims of disasters," he said during the post-State of the Nation Address conference held in San Juan City.

He said there has always been the impression that the Philippines is often a victim of typhoons, floods, and volcanic eruptions.

Solidum cited four things that the DOST does in disaster preparedness and mitigation.
