Bhubaneswar, Nov. 14 -- A revenue inspector (RI) was caught red-handed on Thursday by a team of Odisha Vigilance sleuths while he was taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 for land conversion at Gadi in Bhadrak district. He has been identified as Bhagabata Khatua.

According to sources, the RI demanded and accepted the bribe money from complainant Bijaya Mallick. The latter had applied for conversion long ago, but no step was taken in this regard. Khatua rather asked him for a bribe and Bijaya informed the Bhadrak unit of Vigilance. The sleuths then laid a trap leading to the seizure of bribe money.

A detailed probe is underway, a senior Vigilance official informed.
