20-feet breach in Indravati south canal embankment inundates houses, farmlands in Kalahandi
Bhubaneswar, March 4 -- Acres of farmlands were inundated and houses were submerged after canal water flooded areas of Kalampur block in Kalahandi district following a breach in the Indravati Right canal.
The embankment breach which occurred in the early hours of Monday is said to be 20-feet in length and gradually increasing as the water gushes through it.
Houses of Deypur under the block were submerged till the roof following the breach. The residents were rescued through their roof by breaking open asbestos. As per reports, at least 5-feet water is flowing in the farmlands and streets of Deypur village and its surrounding areas.
