India, March 17 -- Superstitious practices sparked significant safety concerns in Baincha village under Mahakalapada block of Kendrapara district on Monday. Several women in the village allegedly participated in rituals where earthen containers with burning 'Jhuna' (benzoin resin) were placed on their hands and heads.

According to sources, the rituals were performed in honour of the village deity, Maa Sheetala, at her sacred courtyard. Participants were captured in visuals as they were seen igniting the Jhuna, which subsequently burst into flames, posing a substantial risk of injury.
