Prior permission needed before performing Ganga Aarti in Varanasi
New Delhi, Feb. 22 -- Prior permission is now needed by anyone, be it an individual or NGO to perform aarti on the ghats of the sacred river Ganga in Varanasi. Social organizations and even individuals, performing 'Ganga Aarti' at various ghats will now have to get registered with the Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC).
District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma has asked the municipal authorities to prepare the records of the Ganga aarti and complete the registration process by the end of March.
"The riverfront is a public property owned by the state government and being looked after by the Varanasi Municipal Corporation," said the district magistrate in a letter to VMC.
