India, Sept. 12 -- The UN proclaimed World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), was observed on 10 September, which was coordinated by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) with WHO co-sponsoring the event. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be prevented, informs the UN.

A document "Preventing suicide: a resource for pesticide registrars and regulators" of the UN informs that there is now a growing body of international evidence indicating that regulations to prohibit the use of highly hazardous pesticides can lead to reductions in national suicide rates. Many suicides are committed by consuming pesticides around the globe.
