Afghanistan, Aug. 4 -- Iran has formed a new Defense Council, chaired by the president, to strengthen military planning amid renewed tensions and potential conflict with Israel following a recent ceasefire.
Less than six weeks after a ceasefire ended a 12-day conflict, Iranian authorities on Sunday officially announced the formation of a new body named the Defense Council.
According to Iranian media reports citing the Supreme National Security Council, the newly established council is tasked with centrally reviewing defense strategies and enhancing the capabilities of the country's armed forces.
