NEW DELHI, Dec. 3 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to enact a law concerning rape and grievous injuries, saying "we can't legislate laws after laws as it is not in the wisdom of this court to make legislations," a role assigned to Parliament under the Constitution.

A Bench headed by Justice N V Ramana appreciated the issue brought in focus by two lawyers as the petitioners while declining to pass any directions but said they were "at liberty to make a representation to the government." It hoped and trust that the government will consider it and take necessary action.

Lawyers Kirti Ahuja and Kanika Ahuja had moved the Apex Court, seeking reforms in the laws on rape, citing the Hathras rape and murder case.
