India, April 22 -- US President Donald Trump on Monday confirmed he will attend the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis, who died on Monday.

Trump said US First Lady Melania Trump will also attend the event in Rome.

Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social page: "Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome. We look forward to being there!"

Melania expressed her sadness over the death of the Pope on her official X handle and wrote: "On this Easter Monday, we remember His Holiness, Pope Francis. I join millions of people around the world in mourning his loss. I will always cherish my trip to the Holy See in 2017. May he rest in peace."
