Winnipeg/IBNS, Nov. 22 -- A memorial ceremony at the Manitoba Legislature Building on Thursday featured 750 pairs of children's shoes lit by candles and arranged on the building's steps to honour the youngest victims of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The installation, illuminated by softly glowing artificial candles, represented the children who have lost their lives since the Russian invasion began.

The memorial coincided with World Children's Day, a day recognised globally to affirm children's rights and wellbeing.

The United Nations report stated that at least 669 children were killed in both government-held and Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine between February 2022 and December 2024.
