Decoding India's Digital Media Guidelines: Govt Issues Strict Rules For Twitter, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon Prime
India, Feb. 25 -- Tightening the noose around digital media players in the country, the union government today came up with guidelines that would require social media apps like Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube to take down objectionable content/posts within 36 hours of receiving a complaint from competent authorities. OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Zee5 will also face stringent scrutiny from the government as per the new guidelines.
The rules have been notified under the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
