'Dance to draw attention, but don't lose its basic tenets'

IMPHAL, Oct. 21 -- To draw attention of the audience, artist should focus both on modification of the art form as well as maintaining its basic tenets of traditional practices, said Padmashri awardee, S. Thanil Singh.

He expressed his views during the International Classical Manipuri Dance Festival held today at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy (JNMDA), Khuyathong, Imphal, orgnanised by Samarpan.

Attending the function as chief guest, he said that the State is endowed with rich cultural heritage, but the numbers of people who would come to watch the performances are gradually decreasing.
