Woman sold to trafficking racket rescued
KATIHAR, Feb. 6 -- Police in Bihar's Katihar rescued a 30-year-old woman from a human trafficking racket and arrested its four members. The woman deserted by her husband was allegedly sold to the racket for Rs 80,000 with a promise that she would get married and the police rescued her within a few hours.
The press statement released from the office of Katihar superintendent of police (SP) Shikhar Choudhary on Wednesday, said that the Rautara police acting on a tip off carried out a raid in a village and arrested four persons all allegedly members of human trafficking racket and active in the area.
The four members of the racket arrested have been identified as Mohammad Sultan and Ravi Kumar (Both residents of Katihar) and Ramautar and Run Singh both from Moradabad and Badaun districts of Uttar Pradesh.
The police have seized a car which was used for human trafficking, three mobile phones besides the 30-year-old woman.
The woman is living with her parents after her husband deserted her and the local agents of the racket took the woman into confidence and promised that they would get her married. "They later talked to her parents and gave them Rs.80,000 and later they handed over their daughter to the racket with a hope that she would lead a happy life after marriage," police said while quoting the woman.
"The statement of the woman has been recorded at the court," police said....
