TMBU V-C issues show cause to registrar over discrimination cell row
BHAGALPUR, Feb. 6 -- Vice-chancellor (V-C) of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) served show cause notice to registrar Ramasheesh Purve after he issued a notice asking colleges to constitute a dedicated cell to handle complaints of discrimination based on caste, religion, gender or disability.
The notice ignited controversy as the Supreme Court (SC) has already placed the University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations in abeyance.
BS Jha, V-C of Bhupendra Naraya Mandal University (BNMU) Madhepura who is holding additional charge of TMBU said, "The letter regarding forming the cell was issued from the university without my consent," adding, "The letter has been withdrawn."
The V-C said the registrar had been served show cause notice. Earlier students under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) vehemently protested the letter issued by the registrar declaring it a complete contempt of the SC order.
"We want action against the registrar who showed no respect for SC order," ABVP activist Kunal Pandey said.
The apex court on January 29 had placed the UGC regulations 2026 in abeyance directing the 2012 regulations to continue until further directions.
