Tejashwi accuses JD(U) of thwarting political career of Nitish's son
PATNA, June 20 -- Poll-bound Bihar is witnessing bizarre politics. The Opposition RJD is batting for Nishant Kumar, JD(U) president and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's son, accusing JD(U) leaders of thwarting his possibilities.
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said people in Nitish Kumar's close group did not want to allow his son to get into politics, "as they were happy with an ageing and weak CM to set their family members on important positions".
"Those around Nitish Kumar have got a divine blessing that the CM has reached such a state where he does not know who is doing what. Everyone has fixed their wards in good positions, but when Nishant wants to join politics these very people get uncomfortable and prevent his entry through design," Tejashwi said while talking to media persons Wednesday evening.
Tejashwi said the CM as well as Nishant were interested, but they were not being allowed. "Some people benefiting from Nitish Kumar's 'canaries state' do not want this to happen, as it will upset their calculations," he added.
For the last few days, Tejashwi had been relentless in his attack on senior JD(U) leaders and officers for installing their wards on key positions. He even coined a term 'Dammad Aayog' (sons-in-law commission) in a dig at the recent appoints in the boards and corporations.
He was referring to the sons-in-law of Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, former Union minister late Ram Vilas Paswan and state minister Ashok Choudhary, besides the wife of principal secretary to the CM, Deepak Kumar, who found place in the list. He also trained his guns on the two daughters of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha, who have been appointed government advocate.
However, now he has linked the alleged nepotism in appointments with delay in Nishant's entry into state politics, which experts view as a smart attempt to generalise the regular accusations of dynastic politics against his party and which all the NDA leaders frequently use against it.
The NDA has been quick to attack Tejashwi after the latter raised the issue of appointment of wards of JD(U) bigwigs in boards, commissions and elsewhere. Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor also chipped in, saying Tejashwi wanted to generalise dynastic politics by pushing for Nishant.
"But I don't think Nishant or Nitish Kumar are interested in it, even though others - both within and outside the party - may be for their own reasons," he told media persons.
JD(U) spokesman Neeraj Kumar said unlike Tejashwi, Nishant was an engineering graduate and cultured youth, who felt proud of his father's legacy and asked his party men to take it to the public, while the RJD leader removed his father's picture from posters and still took his name when it suited him.
"There is no comparison between the two. If Nishant wishes, he can join any day, as the party workers also want him. His simplicity is his appeal, but he and Nitish Kunar have to take a call and none will question it. Nishant will not require Tejashwi for it," he added.
Meanwhile, two bike-borne criminals on Thursday morning fired near the official residence of Tejashwi Yadav and looted Rs.400 from one Rahul Kumar. Eyewitnesses said the incident took place at the Polo Road residence of the former DyCM under Airport police station, close to the airport as well as residences of senior ministers and government officials.
Soon after the incident, Yadav slammed the Nitish Kumar-led government....
