ARA, Jan. 30 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested a woman sub-inspector (SI), Anjali Kumari, from Lakhisarai where is currently posted, in connection with the kidnapping of a private teacher, Kamlesh Rai. Anjali, a 2019-batch SI, is originally from Anaith in Ara. The CBI believes she is the main conspirator in the kidnapping case and plans to interrogate her intensively to unravel the mystery. She will be taken on remand soon. This is the second arrest in the case. Earlier, the CBI had arrested Rupesh Kumar Chaubey from Patna on January 19. The arrest was confirmed by Rajiv Ranjan, Joint Director, CBI(Bihar-Jharkhand). Kamlesh Rai (30), a resident of Kolharampur village under the Barhara block of Bhojpur district, went missing on July 13, 2023. A private teacher and competitive examination aspirant, Rai had gone to Mahuli Ghat under Sinha police station limits to attend the funeral of a relative. He left the cremation site in the evening, stating that he was heading to Barhara for some work, but never returned. Despite extensive searches, Rai could not be traced. His mobile phone was found switched off and his motorcycle remains untraced. A kidnapping case was registered at Barhara police station on July 14, 2023. With no significant progress in the investigation, Rai's father approached the Patna High Court, which took cognisance of the matter and ordered a CBI probe. Following the HC directive, the CBI registered an FIR on February 28, 2024, and began its investigation. The agency visited Ara several times, tracked mobile locations, and questioned friends and close associates to gather clues. The CBI also announced a reward in the case. During the interrogation of Chaubey, the CBI reportedly received several crucial leads, including information related to ransom demands and threats made to Kamlesh Rai. Based on these inputs, SI Anjali was arrested. According to insiders within the CBI, Chaubey is allegedly the fiance of the woman SI.
