Tax raids on malls of leading textile trader
BHABUA, Feb. 13 -- A commercial tax department team from Patna conducted simultaneous raids on four establishments of a prominent textile trader in Kaimur, Aurangabad and Bhojpur districts on Wednesday evening. The raids were continued till night on readymade garment mall chain at Bhabua, Aurangabad and two in Ara town, officials said.
Electronic gadgets and documents were examined and officials were inventorying the items and scanning the data from the computer systems. At least Rs.1,69,826 cash was recovered from the counter of Bhabua Mall, they added.
Employees were not allowed to leave. All their mobile phones were kept in one place. Strict security checks were conducted. Police were deployed at all entry-exit points and customer's entry to the mall was restricted.
State tax deputy commissioner (headquarters) Kamlesh Prakash and Bhabua zone joint commissioner Abhay Kumar led the raids that included several deputy, assistant and joint commissioner rank officials.
Officials said the management was evading large-scale value addition taxes and failed to produce even basic documents, such as rent agreement. Furthermore, attempts were made to conceal computer data to evade the team, a matter the department has taken seriously....
