SI arrested while accepting Rs.7,000 in Madhepura
MADHEPURA, April 8 -- The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) on Tuesday caught a sub-inspector (SI) red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs.7,000 as a bribe in connection with a land-related investigation in Madhepura, officials said.
The accused, identified as Anil Kumar Singh, was apprehended at a tea stall while taking the money from Vashisht Kumar Vishwakarma, a resident of Aurai village under the jurisdiction of Puraini police station.
The trap was laid by SVU Deputy Superintendent of Police Asif Iqbal. Singh, who was serving as the in-charge of Puraini police station, was arrested on the spot.
According to the complainant, the SI, who was investigating a land dispute and was required to submit a report to the sub-divisional officer (SDO), had initially demanded Rs.10,000. "I lodged a complaint with the vigilance superintendent of police on March 20," Vishwakarma said.
On Tuesday morning, when the complainant met the SI at the tea stall and handed over the money, the vigilance team moved in and arrested him.
Following the arrest, Madhepura Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Avinash Kumar were informed. After brief questioning at Puraini police station, the accused SI was taken to Patna for further interrogation....
