Sanjay Saraogi appointed BJP's new Bihar president
PATNA, Dec. 16 -- The BJP on Monday appointed six-time MLA from Darbhanga, Sanjay Saraogi, as Bihar's new president of the party. He will assume charge from immediate effect.
Saraogi replaces the present incumbent Dilip Jaiswal, who took oath as industry minister in Nitish Kumar-led NDA government.
"Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda has appointed Sanjay Saraogi as the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar with immediate effect," said a letter issued by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh.
Newly appointed Bihar BJP state president Saraogi expressed gratitude to the party's central leadership, calling the BJP "like a mother" and assuring strong coordination between the organisation and the government.
"I would work to justify the trust placed in him and further strengthen the party across the state and pledged to carry out his duties with honesty and dedication," he said and highlighted the BJP's organisational culture, saying the party closely observes the work of every leader and worker, from the booth level to the top leadership, before assigning responsibilities.
Saraogi, a prominent Vaishya face of the party, has been a MLA since February 2005 and is considered to have a strong hold on the Darbhanga urban seat. He was also a minister in the previous government. His appointment as state president is considered important for maintaining social balance and for electoral calculations
He served in various positions in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for 10 years. In 1999, he became the district secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), and also held important positions such as the president of the Darbhanga Municipal Board of the BJP and the general secretary of the Darbhanga District BJP in 2003.
He has also served as the Revenue and Land Reforms Minister in the Bihar government since February 2025. He is the convenor of the Bihar State BJP Cow Protection Cell and a member of the State Executive Committee.
Jaiswal is understood to have been replaced in keeping with the BJP's stated policy of 'one person one post'. Last year, he had resigned from the Nitish Kumar cabinet upon becoming the state BJP president, replacing Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary.
"I am fully confident that under his leadership, the organization will receive new energy, a new direction, and reach new heights,"said Jaiswal. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of the new state president, Sanjay Sarawagi, the Bihar BJP will further accelerate its public service efforts and set new benchmarks in implementing public welfare programs.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also hailed his appointment and extended greetings to Sanjay Saraogi on being appointed as the Bihar state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In a post on X, the Chief Minister wrote, "Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Shri Sanjay Saraogi Ji on being appointed as the BJP State President. Shri Sanjay Saraogi Ji has also worked with us as a ministerial colleague in the cabinet. He has been elected as an MLA for the fifth time. Heartiest best wishes to him for this new responsibility."
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary congratulated him, expressing confidence that the BJP would continue to strengthen its organisation in Bihar under his leadership....
