PATNA, Feb. 8 -- In a horrific incident, four friends, aged between 17 and 19, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poisonous substance in Bihar's Saharsa district on Saturday.Two of them died during treatment at the Khagaria sadar hospital while the other two were still under treatment at the same hospital. All four were said to be dancers who were respected for showcasing their art at cultural events and family functions like weddings, police officials and locals said. The incident occurred at a village of Belwara panchayat under Simri Bakhtiyarpur block of Saharsa-Khagaria border. The village is said to be strong hold of Mahadalits (mussahar) community. Four friends were hospitalised after they were found unconscious in a maize field falling under the Kanaria police station area. They reportedly consumed the pesticide used in the fields. The police said that the real reason behind their death would be ascertained once the postmortem report is available. The police was also clueless about the reason behind the suspected suicidal step by the four. According to the police, the four youths allegedly bought an insecticide called "Feradon" from a compost shop and then consumed it in the maize field. They were rushed to the hospital by the local villagers. The police said that when statements of the surviving youths are recorded, it would give them clues about the draconian step taken by them. Meanwhile, there were some rumours in their village that some "love affair" angle could be one reason. The police or family members didn't find any suicide note. Locals of the area also suspect that it could also be a case of consuming spurious liquor or mixing liquor with other substances as glasses were reportedly recovered from the field....
