RJD wins seat in Kerala; terms BJP's Bengal win an 'EVM management'
PATNA, May 5 -- Bihar's main Opposition party RJD on Monday dubbed the emphatic win of the BJP in West Bengal as not a reflection of people's mandate but a victory clinched through alleged manipulation of EVMs and the misuse of government machinery.
The party also said that it won one assembly seat in Kerala. Party's candidate PK Praveen won the Kuthuparamba seat, defeating Jayanthi Rajan of Indian Union Muslim League by 1,286 votes.
The RJD is a part of the UDF alliance that has secured majority in the state.
RJD's state chief spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav said it was quite surprising that the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal lost the polls despite lacking any anti-incumbency wave, whereas the BJP is steering towards a big win, according to trends till late evening.
"We feel that there is now a need for a thorough debate across the country on whether EVMs should be used in elections. It is a machine and there is always a scope for manipulation. The poll results of Bengal are truly 'EVM management' and 'machinery management'," Yadav said, adding that there are reasons to believe that the BJP's resounding victory in the Bengal polls had more to do with the administrative and electoral manipulations.
Chittaranjan Gagan also said that the BJP's resounding conquest in West Bengal had much to do with how the electoral process was allegedly manipulated and resources were misused.
State Communist Party of India (CPI) also said the NDA's win in many states looked more like a win for the ECI accusing the poll panel of conducting the recent polls partially....
