PATNA, Feb. 18 -- Chaos erupted in the Bihar legislative assembly once again on Tuesday as legislators from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) staged noisy protests demanding an apology from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for what they called a grave insult to their founder, the late Ram Vilas Paswan. The uproar, now in its third consecutive day during the ongoing budget session, began as soon as the House assembled for the day's business. LJP (RV) MLAs, led by state president Raju Tiwari, waved posters and shouted slogans accusing the RJD of habitual disrespect toward Dalits. Banners carried strong messages such as "Rajad ki pehchan, Daliton ka apman" (RJD's identity is the insult of Dalits) and "Desh ke doosre Ambedkar ka apman, nahi sahega Hindustan" (The country will not tolerate insult to the second Ambedkar). Outside the Assembly, party legislators held a sit-in protest near the memorial pillar, continuing their dharna that started earlier in the week. The controversy stems from remarks made last week by RJD's Bodh Gaya MLA Kumar Sarvjeet, who referred to Paswan - a towering Dalit leader and former Union minister - as "bechara" (pitiable) while discussing his political journey. Sarvjeet had made the comment in the context of urging the installation of a life-size statue of Paswan at a prominent location in Patna, and even suggested one within the Assembly premises to honour his contributions. Speaking to reporters, Raju Tiwari insisted that RJD legislature party leader Tejashwi Yadav must issue a public apology inside the House. "Ram Vilas Paswan ji had an unblemished 50-year political career and served under six prime ministers," Tiwari said. "Calling him 'bechara' is an insult not just to him but to the entire Dalit community. The RJD has a history of humiliating Dalits, and they must apologise unconditionally before talking about any statue." Tiwari dismissed Sarvjeet's call for a statue as opportunistic, saying the RJD was "changing colours like a chameleon" and should first retract the insult. Kumar Sarvjeet, however, stood his ground and hit back at Tiwari. "Ram Vilas Paswan ji has been our ideal and a messiah for Dalits and the poor across castes and religions," he told reporters. "I raised the demand for his statue because he deserves it. But Raju Tiwari, being from a different background, seems unable to accept that a son of a Dalit could rise to such greatness." Sarvjeet added that he would not bow to demands for an apology, saying Tiwari would have to "take seven births" for that....
