PATNA, Jan. 21 -- Pataliputra University (PPU) Senate on Tuesday approved the proposal for naming of the new upcoming campus of the university as "Nitish Nagar" after Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar. The members of the senate, at the meeting held under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Upendra Prasad Singh, said that the name "Nitish Nagar" would underline the commitment of the state government for educational development and work as an inspiration to develop into an important centre of modern education. The new campus of the university, set up in 2018, is coming up at Bakhtiarpur. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had laid the foundation stone for its administrative and academic buildings near on November 23, 2024. The senate also passed PPU's Rs.839-core budget with deficit of a whopping Rs.673-crore for 2025-26, underlining the fiscal challenges, but still approved a lot of fresh proposals having financial implications. The senate approved the appointment of guest teachers ahead of the new academic session to ensure proper teaching due to delayed recruitment process.
