poachers held in VTR with sloth bear bones
BETTIAH, Jan. 15 -- A joint team of the Forest Department and Sashastra Seema Bal on Wednesday arrested two alleged poachers and seized bones, suspected to be of a sloth bear, at a place in West Champaran district.
Officials said the accused were intercepted on Sainik Road in Gobardhana Range of the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), near Ramnagar in the district.
"Prima facie, the bone appears to be that of a sloth bear. An investigation is underway to confirm the species, and we are also trying to ascertain how and where they obtained it," said Dr Nesamani K, conservator and field director of Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), adding these bones looked old....
