GAYA JI, June 28 -- In a major incident of theft on 12282 Anand Vihar (Delhi)-Bhubaneswar Duronto Express near Gaya Junction, criminals entered the superfast train as passengers and stole cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees belonging to five families travelling in three coaches on Thursday late-night. The train has only five stops at Kanpur Central, Pt Deendayal Upadhyay junction, Adra, Balasore and Bhubaneswar after it starts from New Delhi. The theft took place between Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction and Gaya Junction when the passengers were fast asleep. The thieves stole valuables like bags, purses, mobile phones and laptops etc. belonging to men and women of five families travelling to Bhubaneswar in coaches B2, B3 and B4 and fled after vacuuming the train near pole number 282/10 between Paraiya and Kashtha stations at 1.06 am, rail officials said. As the train was stopped, the TTE immediately informed Railway Commercial Control, Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction and requested for protection from a possible train robbery. At the same time, the TTE and other staff woke up the passengers and instructed them to be on alert. Railway SP Patna Amritendu Shekhar Thakur said following the alert by the railway control, the senior railway officials became active and Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) from Gaya and nearby stations immediately reached the spot under Gaya Junction GRP SHO inspector Rajesh Kumar Singh.
