No intention to leave politics: Renu Devi
BETTIAH, Oct. 17 -- Former Bihar deputy CM and five-time MLA from Bettiah Renu Devi who is BJP's nominee for eighth consecutive time in 2025 polls,, said she harboured "no intention" to hang her boots from politics till her last breath.
Devi, who began her political journey with a self-help group and remained associated with the RSS, questioned the wisdom behind seeking retirement of a woman like her from politics. "... Premji (MLA from Gaya) is an eight time legislator and Nand Kishoreji has served as an MLA for seven terms. Is there any thought of retirement there? Why is a woman being asked to quit politics? It's wrong... Don't underestimate women, " the 65-yr-old minister said, while replying to a query, amid speculation for a new face for Bettiah this time.
"Will retire only if disenchantment grows within me. But as of now, I am fully committed to the cause of the BJP which I view as my family and I have been working 12 to 14 hours for the party everyday," she added.
Devi won Bettiah seat in 2000, 2005 (February), 2005 (November), 2010 and 2020 after facing drubbing in her maiden electoral contest in 1995 from Nautan assembly seat. In 2015, she lost to Congress' Madan Mohan Tiwari.
On her name being associated with brother Pinnu, who is facing criminal charges, she said, "How many times do you want me to tell you that I have broken my relationship with him since long? "...
