NEET aspirant's death: CBI grills suspended cop, includes suicide in probe ambit
PATNA, Feb. 20 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigating the mysterious death of a medical aspirant girl in a private hostel on Thursday questioned the suspended sub-inspector (SI) Hemant Jha of Kadamkuan police station to its office.
Jha was the first police officer to get to know about the hospitalisation of the girl in an unconscious state on January 6 when the Prabhat Memorial Hospital management informed the police about her. It was alleged by the girl's parents that Jha didn't discharge his duty properly and the delay caused the girl's death later on January 11 in an other hospital.
After the case came to light, Jha recorded the statement of the victim's family, on the basis of which an FIR was registered at Chitragupta Nagar police station. The Patna SSP later suspended Hemant Jha in view of the allegations of negligence.
The family members of the victim girl has all along maintained that there was foul play with the girl and there were attempts to destroy the evidence, as the victim breathed her last five days after falling unconscious and getting shifted to three private hospitals during the period.
Meanwhile, the ambit of the CBI probe also includes exploration of the suicide angle, an official said.

Phone of the victim's brother, which was given for repair, was also seized from the shop, as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) hinted at victim's strained relation with her brother as a possible reason behind suicide.
The CBI will possibly send the seized mobile phone to Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) at Kolkata or Delhi for examination to ascertain if chats, calls and videos have been deleted and if there was really some serious difference between the two, said an official.
