Muzaffarpur rail sp submits report against 6 in 'evidence swapping' case
PATNA, Feb. 14 -- A three-member team formed by the police headquarters to probe the "seized charas turning into bricks" case has submitted its report, holding six people guilty, including the then DSP (Rail) Bettia, Sugauli CO, SHO of Sugauli GRP, RPF inspector, and the Investigating Officer (IO) for swapping the evidence, police said.
On March 5, 2025, the RPF seized three unclaimed bags containing 24 kg of charas at the Sugauli railway station on the Muzaffarpur-Narkatiaganj section of East Central Railway and handed them over to the GRP. The GRP weighed and sealed the consignment in the presence of a magistrate and Sugauli CO Kundan Kumar. A case was registered against unidentified people, and the narcotics were stored in the GRP malkhana.
However, when the IO presented the sealed bags in the judicial magistrate's court at Motihari, they were found to contain bricks and stones instead of charas. Following this, the court directed the Muzaffarpur Rail SP to investigate the case.
In response, the police headquarters formed a three-member inquiry team comprising the Muzaffarpur rail SP, an RPF commandant, and the ADM of East Champaran. The RPF inspector, who initially recovered the charas, led the team; the GRP SHO had registered the FIR; the Sugauli CO prepared the seizure list; and the Rail DSP failed to properly monitor the case.
