PATNA, Jan. 31 -- A 15-year-old boy was killed and another minor seriously injured after an artillery shell exploded at Vidhi Hill under Barachatti police station area in Bihar's Gaya district on Friday, police said. The injured boy was referred from Barachatti primary health centre (PHC) to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) for better treatment. The deceased has been identified as Saurabh Kumar, a resident of Sevai village, while the injured boy has been identified as Mukesh Kumar. No case had been registered in connection with the incident till Friday evening, though Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) said an FIR would be lodged against unknown persons. According to police, the explosion occurred when the two minors were allegedly trying to extract brass from an artillery shell that they had collected from a restricted Indian Army firing range. The forest area is a notified firing range used for practice by Army and paramilitary forces, and civilians are prohibited from entering it.
